WHAT CONSTITUTES RAGGING?

Ragging includes any act that causes or is likely to cause physical or psychological harm or raise apprehension or fear or shame or embarrassment to a student. This includes:

Teasing, embarrassing, or humiliating a student
Forcing a student to do any act that causes embarrassment
Causing hurt to a student by any means
Wrongful confinement or restraint
Verbal abuse or threats

CONSEQUENCES

Ragging is a cognizable offence under Indian law. Punishment includes:

Cancellation of admission
Suspension from attending classes
Withholding results
Debarring from examinations
Expulsion from the institution
Criminal prosecution

Anti-Ragging Committee

The Anti-Ragging Committee is constituted as per UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009. The committee comprises:

Principal (Chairperson)
Senior Faculty Members
Representatives from Civil Administration
Student Representatives
Non-Teaching Staff Representatives

What Constitutes Ragging

Any act of physical or mental abuse
Teasing, bullying, or intimidation
Forcing students to perform acts against their will
Any conduct that causes shame, torment, or embarrassment
Verbal abuse, harassment, or discrimination
Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a student

Reporting & Action

Complaints can be filed with the Anti-Ragging Committee

Anti-Ragging Affidavit

Every student and parent/guardian is required to submit an Anti-Ragging Affidavit at the time of admission. This can be submitted online through the UGC portal at www.antiragging.in or www.amanmovement.org.
